  • Self-Discovery Through Movement: How Pole Dancing Helped Me Love Myself and Heal

Growing up, I struggled with my self-image. I was bullied relentlessly for my body—too curvy, too thin, too awkward at times. Those voices of criticism followed me into adulthood, and I internalized them, letting them shape how I saw myself. The world is unkind to anyone who doesn’t fit neatly into its mold, and for years, I carried the weight of that negativity like a shadow.

My Journey From Pain to Self-Love

As a kid, dance was always my escape. Whether I was twirling in my bedroom or pretending the kitchen floor was my stage, dance was where I felt free. 

Through the spins, climbs, and floor work, I began to notice my strength—strength I never knew I had. I learned to appreciate my curves and my lines for what they were: beautiful expressions of me.

Pole Dancing as Healing

Pole dancing taught me that movement isn’t about impressing others—it’s about connecting with yourself. It’s about expressing emotions you can’t put into words.

For me, it became a form of therapy. Every time I stepped onto the pole, I was rewriting my story: the pain, the shame, and the negativity others had placed on me. I was reclaiming my narrative.

And the beautiful thing about pole dancing is that it doesn’t have to be provocative. It can be about healing, playfulness, and freedom. When I dance, I feel empowered—not because of how I look, but because of how I feel.

Helping Others Love Themselves Through Dance

Now, as a coach, healer, and artist, I’ve made it my mission to help others discover this transformative power of movement. I teach women (and men) that their bodies are perfect exactly as they are.

Dance isn’t about the shapes you make; it’s about the emotions you feel and the stories you tell. It’s about embracing who you are and finding joy in that. Watching others step into their confidence and break free from their insecurities reminds me why I started this journey in the first place.
